Infinita is a Finnish-Italian jazz quintet performing Sid Hille’s compositions.
The band had its origin when Sid participated in the composition competition ‘Scrivere in Jazz’ in Sassari, Sardegna in September 2008.
The Bigband ‘Orchestra jazz della Sardegna’ performed Hille’s piece ‘Tango Mòrbido Y Cìnico‘, which consequently won the first prize of the competition.
After the concert the band’s tenorist Massimo Carboni and Sid started talking about other possibilities of co-operation and the idea of a cross-european quintet was born.
In 2010 trumpeter Tero Saarti, bassist Paolo Spanu and drummer Gianni Filindeu completed the band.
Infinita (from FIN and ITA) held its debut concert at the ‘Musica sulle Bocce’-jazz festival in Santa Teresa di Gallura, Sardegna, which was followed by a short tour in Finland in spring 2011.
Here is a concert clip of the Finland tour:
A new concert series was organized in spring 2013, during which Infinita recorded at the e-studio in Helsinki.
Sid went to Oslo to mix the music with legendary Jan-Erik Kongshaug in March 2013 and SatnaMusic released the CD ‘Time Continuum’ (SatnaMusic CD 131) in May 2013.

Infinita performed at the Nuoro Jazz Festival in Sardegna in summer 2014
In spring 2015 the band was back in Finland at the Sellosali in Espoo

And here’s a little additional gimmick:
the opening number of the CD, a collective improvisation called ‘Wild (To Live and Tell the Tale)’, from the perspective of a compressor.
