For a list of all compositions, click <a title=\"all compositions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\nIn the drop menu above, you can also choose various categories separately.)<\/p>\n<p>I wrote scores for four feature films and several shorts and documentaries (&#8211;&gt; see the <a title=\"for films\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Films section<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Most of my film music was scored for small bands, which made it easy to perform the music also in live concerts.<br \/>\nThe film <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cineuropa.org\/vd.aspx?t=video&amp;l=en&amp;rdID=220554\">Stars Above<\/a> by director Saara Cantell was shown on some special occasions with my live band playing the soundtrack.<br \/>\nSo the live music communicates with the dialogue on screen. An interesting experience!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve written several compositions for large or even very large orchestras:<br \/>\nFor example my piece FEUER for orchestra and choir (2014) had 160 people on stage, or Lumia Suite (2008) was written for a symphonic orchestra, folk music instruments and 3 soloist singers.<\/p>\n<p>In general I&#8217;m very fond of strings.<br \/>\nThree string quartets (2004, 2009, 2016) and most recently <a href=\"https:\/\/areena.yle.fi\/1-61069846?seek=6933\">Begehren<\/a> for mezzosoprano and string quartet (2020)<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> are proof of that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Building a brigde between the two musical orbits of classical music and jazz has become somewhat of a mission for me.<br \/>\nMaybe this is most evident in the saxophone concerto <a title=\"Excerpt from Time Freeze\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?post_type=playlist&amp;p=111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Time Freeze<\/a>, written for tenorist Manuel Dunkel, or the guitar\/string quartet-composition <a title=\"Excerpt from Time Freeze\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?post_type=playlist&amp;p=111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frizzle, Sizzle, Dazzle<\/a> written for guitarist Teemu Viinikainen (&#8211;&gt; listen to some excerpts in the player).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0185.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-158\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0185-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0185-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0185.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand there is improvisation.<br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">A universe of its own!<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The complete trust in the spontaneous inspiration of the moment&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Given, of course, that the musicians in question have a large vocabulary and, obviously, the necessary technique and courage to express themselves.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">In such a case, I just hand out some guidelines and allow the imagination and intuition of the musicians to roam within the given boundaries, as was<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> the case with my quartet <a title=\"Contemporary Collective\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=124\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Contemporary Collective<\/a> and more recently with my new trio <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=778\">F#<\/a> and my duo &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=929\">The Hille-K\u00f6nighofer Experience<\/a>. The Contemporary Collective operated with a parameter chart, a single page of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic ideas, out of which we created an hour&#8217;s worth of crazy, beautiful, fragile, spaceous and experimental music (see one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/114654969\">videos<\/a>).<br \/>\nF#\u00a0 and the Hille-K\u00f6ighofer Experience improvise without any boundaries or even guidelines: the musicians meet on stage as if it were the first time and start communicating. No plan, no agreement, anything is possible, anything may happen. A big THANK YOU to all of them!<\/p>\n<p>And in the middle of this little universe of music there&#8217;s me, the composer, the guy who comes up with stuff.<br \/>\nI love playing the piano. And I love producing sounds on no matter what source.<br \/>\nIn the run of years I bought a collection of instruments &#8211; e.g. a kantele, little percussions, bowls, bells, triangles and more recently also some electronic equipment, the theremin and a collection of synthesizers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0035.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-159\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0035-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0035\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0035-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_0035.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nSo, on my vinyl releases ONE (2011) and UGETSU (2016) I played all instruments by myself, all spontaneous and improvised.
