{"id":173,"date":"2014-01-30T11:24:24","date_gmt":"2014-01-30T11:24:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=173"},"modified":"2023-03-27T12:29:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T12:29:21","slug":"for-big-band","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=173","title":{"rendered":"for big band"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Between 1994 and 2002 I held a teaching position at the Central Ostrobothnian conservatory in Kokkola in northern Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of my job was to conduct the school&#8217;s excellent big band.<br>Before that I had composed mainly for the small ensembles I played in myself, but while conducting I got acquainted with some great traditional and modern big band scores. The orchestration techniques of Finnish composer Jukka Linkola and American composers Maria Schneider and Thad Jones intrigued me most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually I started writing scores, at first orchestrating some of my small band pieces.
