{"id":773,"date":"2016-05-29T10:24:50","date_gmt":"2016-05-29T10:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?p=773"},"modified":"2016-05-29T10:42:31","modified_gmt":"2016-05-29T10:42:31","slug":"exciting-new-stuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?p=773","title":{"rendered":"Exciting new stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi everybody,<\/p>\n<p>where to begin?<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s start with the Contemporary Collective: the band has entered a new phase in their work.<br \/>\nThe quirky avant-garde quartet with Heikki Nikula on bass clarinet, Teemu Viinikainen on guitars, me\u00a0on electric piano, theremin and percussion and Markus Hohti on cello has been enlarged into a quintet, with drum wizard Mika Kallio joining the band.<br \/>\nOur\u00a0first gig with the new program called &#8216;WARP&#8217; at the Koko Jazz Club in Helsinki was a great success. Here you can watch a short clip:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/168485950\" width=\"280\" height=\"158\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>More concerts will follow in fall 2016; before that CoCo will still play two shows in Berlin and Munich as a quartet. (See the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidhille.com\/?page_id=57\">gig calender<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Another nice thing that happened was that a brief haphazard meeting in a hotel lobby during the JazzAhead trade fair in Bremen led to a gig at the Pori Jazz Festival.<br \/>\nF#, my new trio with bassist <a href=\"http:\/\/jazzfinland.fi\/artisti\/jori-huhtala\">Jori Huhtala<\/a> and drummer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markusketola.com\">Markus Ketola<\/a>, was only formed in March this year.\u00a0This will be our first public performance on July 15th, and Pori is certainly a nice place to have it, as part of the Ultra Music series.<br \/>\nHere you can watch a\u00a0little video from our first rehearsal in March:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/159696502\" width=\"280\" height=\"158\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A little later in summer, on August 25th, I will play a concert at the Viapori Jazz Festival together with singer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jazzfinland.fi\/artisti\/anni-elif-egecioglu\/biografia\">Anni Elif Egecioglu<\/a> and percussionist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jazzfinland.fi\/artist\/abdissa-assefa\">Abdissa &#8216;Mamba&#8217; Assefa<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis will be a very special occasion where we &#8216;New-Finns&#8217; (as opposed to &#8216;True Finns&#8217;) get a chance to interpret essential Finnish music (from Sibelius to Virta and K\u00e4rki) through the lense of our &#8216;outside perspective&#8217;.
